Football fans have been expressing their discontent after referee Michael Oliver sent off Manchester United defender, Diogo Dalot during their 0-0 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
The game had gone on for over 90 minutes without any goals or incident.
However, in the 93rd minute, there was late drama in stoppage-time.
United ended the game with 10 men after seeing Dalot dismissed by Oliver.
Dalot did not take kindly to seeing a throw-in awarded against him, with the ball flicking off Mohamed Salah’s boot before rolling out of play.
He contested the initial award of a throw to Liverpool, leading to a yellow immediately being flashed in his direction. The versatile Portugal international continued to air his frustration in Oliver’s direction, earning him a second caution and an unnecessary dismissal.
Fans are bemused over the decision.
@PaddyArsenal: Michael Oliver really gave Dalot two yellow cards in five seconds for shouting at him for not doing his job properly but didn’t book Kovacic for two studs up tackles from behind in five minutes
@TheFergusonWay: Michael Oliver just gave two yellow cards within 5 seconds to Dalot for claiming that that it was our throw-in. Funniest part of it all is, it actually was our throw in.
@Cerebrone: That Dalot incident is madness because he was actually right, and had a genuine reason to be frustrated.
@ltarsenal: I don’t like Man United but that Dalot red card has made me so angry. That’s disgraceful from Michael Oliver. Ridiculous decision.
@UTDTrey: Still crazy to me how Dalot got a red card for that shit lmao, Liverpool really had the referee on their side and still couldn’t beat us 😭
