Cristiano Ronaldo, a striker for Manchester United, is expected to make a surprising move to Barcelona this summer.
Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has discussed the possibility of bringing the captain of Portugal to Barcelona with Barcelona president Joan Laporta this summer.
Ronaldo has already informed Manchester United that he intends to leave the team this summer because he doesn’t think they’ll be able to contend for trophies in the coming campaign.
Five different clubs have already been linked to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, including Chelsea, Sporting Lisbon, Roma, Bayern Munich, and AS Roma.
However, a new, shocking name has since surfaced. According to Spanish newspaper AS, Mendes and Laporta have been meeting, and Ronaldo’s name has been brought up during those meetings.
The possibility of signing Ronaldo, who, of course, had a remarkable career with Real Madrid, was on the agenda when the two men met for dinner on Monday night. Barcelona had previously looked into the possibility.
Barcelona wanted a big name at the time to fill the void left by Lionel Messi joining Paris Saint-Germain, but they could not afford Ronaldo.
However, Barcelona had been interested in signing Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.
Although Lewandowski only has one year left on his contract, Bayern is unwilling to sell and is demanding a transfer fee of around £50 million, so the Catalan club may opt to sign Ronaldo instead if they are unsuccessful in acquiring him this summer.
Although Ronaldo would make a sizable salary, the 37-year-old, who was acquired by Manchester United for £21.4 million from Juventus last summer, might be a more cost-effective option than Lewandowski.
