EPL: Arteta told to sell three Arsenal players

Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has told Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, to get rid of at least players.

Carragher believes the Gunners should put their faith in Arteta and rather sell underperforming players.

Arsenal were thrashed 3-0 by Liverpool last weekend, ahead of this Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final against Slavia Prague.

They are nine points off the top-four and 32 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.

Carragher says it will be a ‘painful’ process for Arsenal as they bid to create a squad capable of challenging for titles again and named Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Willian as three players who should be moved on.

“It’s going to take a lot of pain for Arsenal,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“It’s the players, get rid of them. Stick with Arteta and get the young players in the team.

“[Martin] Odegaard has come in and been a revelation, he’s someone you need to make a permanent signing if possible because he’s been fantastic.

“Has [Alexandre] Lacazette ever really been the answer? No. Willian has been a disaster of a signing.

“Nicolas Pepe, it’s not his age or his price tag, really, he’s just not good enough and never will be good enough, so Arsenal need to cut their losses there.”
