Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has warned Arsenal supporters that they could miss out on the Premier League top four this season.
Mikel Arteta‘s men have enjoyed a strong start to the 2022/2023 campaign and sit top of the table after their opening nine games.
But Arsenal have not finished in the Premier League top four since the 2015-16 season under Arsene Wenger.
Mikel Arteta’s side looked on course to do it last term but a late collapse handed the final Champions League spot to north London rivals Tottenham.
Arsenal were thumped 3-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on May 12, which put Spurs one point behind them with two games to play.
But the Gunners would go on to lose to Newcastle four days later and despite victory over Everton on the final day, it was not enough as Tottenham held their nerve with wins over Burnley and Norwich.
Neville has warned Arsenal ‘could still finish outside the top four’ this season despite their impressive start and that they still face a ‘big job’ to do it.
He told The Overlap: ‘I don’t think Liverpool will finish in the top four, and Arsenal could still finish outside the top four as well – but I’ll put [them] in for now just to keep all the Arsenal fans happy!
‘I look at Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool – it’s still a big job for Arsenal [to finish in the top four].’
