Antonio Conte has stated his desire for Tottenham striker Harry Kane to sign a new contract with the club.
The England captain is back to his best for Spurs and scoring goals after a crazy 2021 in which he actively pursued a transfer to Manchester City. On Sunday, his brace against Nottingham Forest helped Spurs move up to third place in the Premier League.
Given that Kane’s current contract was set to expire in 2024, neither he nor the club were in a rush to sign a new one. Compared to Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte has made him happier, and the Italian thinks the club is attempting to persuade him to sign new contracts.
He said: “I have to be honest with you: I don’t know, I don’t know about this situation, I don’t know the details, honestly, honestly.
“You know we are talking about an important player for Tottenham. And the desire of everybody into the club is [for Kane] to continue to stay with Tottenham, to sign a new contract.
“But if you ask me about the details, about information, I cannot answer you.”
At this early stage of the season, only Erling Haaland has scored more Premier League goals than Kane, and his most recent double helped Spurs defeat a resolute Forest team.
The north London team, along with Manchester City and Brighton, who have each accumulated ten points through their first four games, are all two points behind early leaders and neighbourhood rivals Arsenal.
