EPL: Again, VAR decision causes outrage as Alexis Mac Allister’s goal cancelled

In the midst of Saturday’s myriad problems, Alexis Mac Allister’s goal was controversially overturned after a VAR review.

On Saturday, VAR was the centre of attention as contentious decisions marred the Premier League games.

Currently, the entire VAR system is experiencing a minor PR crisis. On Saturday, controversial decisions were made to prevent Newcastle from scoring against Crystal Palace and West Ham from scoring against Chelsea.

Both decisions appeared to be up for debate, and many people were angry that VAR was currently being used to overturn marginal calls when on-field referees had already determined the goals.

Naturally, there was little praise for the response to the disallowed goal on social media.

Starting with the goal that West Ham United was denied, the incident at the Gtech Community Stadium, and Leeds United’s feeling of injustice.

And now the debate over VAR has extended to Sunday’s match between Brighton and Leicester City.

After putting a magnificent effort into the back of the net, Mac Allister believed he had given his team the lead once more.

However, match official Tony Harrington reversed the decision after reviewing the goal on VAR because Enock Mwepu was in an offside position during the buildup.

It goes without saying that the most recent VAR controversy erupted on social media, with Ian Wright demanding its elimination.

Despite the outcome favouring his team, Gary Lineker criticised VAR.

The Premier League will work with referee body PGMOL to review the contentious decisions from the games on Saturday as soon as possible.
