David Raum: RB Leipzig sign Hoffenheim defender

David Raum, a full back for Germany, has been acquired by RB Leipzig from Hoffenheim, a Bundesliga rival.

The 24-year-old, who was a Greuther Furth player before joining Hoffenheim last season, had a strong debut campaign in the German top division, playing up and down the left flank and contributing 13 assists and three goals.

According to 90min, Raum slipped under Manchester City’s and Manchester United’s radars earlier this summer. Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord was ultimately acquired by United, whereas City are currently concentrating their efforts on Marc Cucurella from Brighton.

As a result, Leipzig was able to move forward with their acquisition of Raum, who has now committed to the east German club on a five-year, €30 million contract with add-ons.

After his transfer, Raum admitted it had been influenced by the draw of Champions League football in an interview with Leipzig’s official website: “I am very happy about my move to RB Leipzig. The club tried hard to get me and the discussions with coach Domenico Tedesco, the sporting management and managing director Oliver Mintzlaff quickly convinced me that the step to Leipzig was absolutely the right one for me.
