West Ham United manager David Moyes made a cheeky apology after being sent off for trying to injure a ball boy on Thursday night. Moyes was sent off in West Ham’s 1-0 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.
The Hammers trailed 2-1 heading into the second leg in Germany. When Aaron Cresswell was sent off after only 17 minutes, their job of breaking the stalemate got much more difficult.
Minutes after Cresswell’s departure, Rafael Borre blasted low past Alphonse Areola to increase Frankfurt’s advantage. West Ham increased the pressure on the club to lower the deficit, but nothing came of it.
With time running out for the English, David Moyes knocked the ball back to a ball boy, infuriating the Frankfurt bench. The centre referee, Jesus Manzano, instantly gave the Scott strategist his marching orders.
Moyes addressed the subject during his post-match news conference, according to the Daily Mail.
I have to apologise for kicking the ball but the ball boy left it short and it was nicely on the volley for me – Moyes said.
