Darwin Nunez, a summer acquisition, who began the Premier League season on the bench, per Jurgen Klopp’s decision, gave his team a push after helping Liverpool avoid defeat against spirited Fulham.
Before the game began, Klopp said, “Darwin needs time to settle and we need to mix it up a bit,”
“Bobby [Roberto Firmino] is a baller.” says the Reds manager.
Klopp was unconvinced by both of those claims by the end of Saturday’s 2-2 draw, you can be sure of that, following the tough competition that was encountered at Craven Cottage.
Nunez quickly made his Premier League debut after changes were required. Tim Ream, the captain of Fulham, quickly stole the ball off his toes. Neeskens Kebano was then set up for a powerful shot that hit the foot of the post.
Although they don’t have to be at their best to be dangerous, Liverpool did not appear to be much like Liverpool during these stages. Soon after testing Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak with a flicked effort, Nunez scored from Salah’s low cross using exactly the same technique.
Jurgen Klopp’s team were woeful for the large parts of the first half but better in the second with new signing Darwin Nunez matching Aleksandar Mitrović’s 32 minutes goal.
Fulham had tried to make this a bit of a dogfight and Liverpool had no other option than to match up to the challenge to avoid defeat on the 2022/23 EPL opening day at Craven Cottage.
