Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has slammed goalkeeper Andre Onana over the Cameroonian’s error against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
Onana took the full blame after he let a shot from Bayern forward Leroy Sane roll underneath him and straight into the back of the net.
The former Ajax goalkeeper who should have easily stopped the shot but let it roll in to the surprise of many.
Ferdinand said the situation was a ‘nightmare scenario’ for the Cameroonian who was signed as a replacement for club legend David de Gea.
“This is a nightmare scenario for Onana,” Ferdinand told TNT Sport.
“He is as confident as you like with his feet but as a goalkeeper you are expected to come in and make saves.
“It is a great bit of skill from Sane to set it up well but he doesn’t hit it with any real purpose. It is not wide of him, it is not in the corners.
“He should save this, he should be picking this up and looking for his next pass. It is a very, very bad mistake and one he needs to recover from.”
