Liverpool’s historic quest for the quadruple got a major boost after they humiliated Portuguese giants, Benfica 1-3 at home in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Quarter Final, at the Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica stadium, Lisbon, on Tuesday.
Early goals from Ibrahima Konaté and Sadio Mané, and a late goal from Luis Díaz were all the Reds needed to fly pass the Eagles.
Konaté gave the visitors the lead in the 17th minute before Mane extended Liverpool’s lead 17 minutes later with a super volley.
Darwin Núñez reduced the deficit for the hosts in the 49th minute after scoring a brilliant goal to make it 1-2.
But Luis Díaz’s late goal saw Liverpool cruised to a comfortable 1-3 victory in the first leg of the Champions League Quarter Final.
The English Premier League side will now host Benfica on 13th April, 2022 for the second leg tie at Anfield.
