After receiving a red card over the weekend during Ajax’s match against PSV Eindhoven, Calvin Bassey has been suspended for the team’s first two games of the new league season.
In the 72nd minute of the Dutch Super Cup match that took place at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Bassey was shown a red card for a horrendous tackle.
The international player from Nigeria was brought on as a substitute in the 62nd minute of play.
The 22-year-old will miss both the home game against Groningen on August 14 and the opening game against Fortuna Sittard on Saturday.
Following a month-long stint with Glasgow Rangers of the Scottish Premiership, Bassey joined Ajax.
He is anticipated to emerge as one of Ajax’s most important players this year.
