Social commentator, Japheth Omojuwa, has claimed Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen will not win the 2023 CAF Player of the Year ahead of Achraf Hakimi.
Omojuwa is expecting Hakimi to win it, because the ceremony will be hosted in Morocco.
He tweeted: “I hope I am wrong on this one. They won’t give Victor Osimhen an award they nominated homeboy Achraf Hakimi in. Morocco are hosting. CAF don’t have those sort of balls especially as the whole thing appears set up to celebrate their World Cup run.
“We’d need a miracle to see Osimhen named winner, even though he’s been the best African footballer over the period.
“The ballon d’or don’t even rate Hakimi as the best Moroccan player and like the ballon d’or, Mo Salah is rated ahead of Hakimi.
“I rate World Cup performance. However, Morocco’s World Cup success is on the back of their unit and their exceptional goalkeeper. Hakimi wasn’t their standout player, Bono was.
“Osimhen, if you don’t moderate for African football politics, should win it. Fingers crossed.”
