Brazil beat Peru to win COPA America 2019

Brazil have won the 2019 COPA America tournament by beating Peru 3-1 at the Maracana stadium in Rio De Janeiro.

The victory is the fourth time Brazil will be hosting and winning and also the ninth time they will be lifting the trophy. They won the competition after twelve years of trying.

Everton got the opener after he was set up by Manchester City player Jesus who went on to restore their lead after Peru equalized. He was later sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

A late penalty by Richarlson sealed the game for Brazil whose last major tournament victory was the 2016 Olympic in which they won Gold Medal.

Everton who scored the opener was named the final’s best player and also finished the competition as one of the top scorers with 3 goals.

The game was without Neymar who was injured. He was however in the stadium seated beside president Jaire Bolsonaro cheering with the 70,000 fans at the Maracana stadium.
