Ballon d’Or: Super Eagles react as Victor Osimhen makes history in France

The Super Eagles have reacted to Victor Osimhen’s history-making 2022-23 football season.

Osimhen helped Italian side Napoli win the Serie A title, finishing as the highest goalscorer.

The Nigerian was named among the possible winners of football’s most prestigious individual award, the Ballon d’Or this year.

Even though the 24-year-old could not beat the likes of Lionel Messi, who won the 2022 World Cup, in Qatar and Erling Haaland, a treble winner with Manchester City, he finished eighth in the standing.

No Nigerian male player has ever finished within the top ten of Ballon d’Or ranking and the Super Eagles acknowledged this on their official X handle.

“Victor Osimhen becomes the first ever Nigerian player to make the top ten of the Ballon d’Or.” It wrote.

Messi is expected to go home with the award tonight.
