Cristiano Ronaldo has sent social media on fire with his latest action during Al Nassr’s Asian Champions League game.
The Saudi Pro League giants played out a 1-1 draw with Iran’s Persepolis on Monday evening.
However, the major highlight of the game was when Ronaldo protested a penalty that was called in his favour during the scoreless draw.
Referee Ma Ning ultimately overturned the call after reviewing the replay.
And fans believe the Portuguese football icon has taken sportsmanship to another level.
“Al Nassr awarded a penalty but Cristiano went on to tell the referee it was not a penalty..unreal sportsmanship,” a fan acknowledged.
“Respect! Cristiano Ronaldo brought a penalty to Al Nassr, he walked up to the referee and said that the ball did not deserve a penalty.
“Respect to Cr7 for his great action,” says another fan.
“Ronaldo’s honesty is refreshing to see in a sport where diving and simulation are often used to gain an advantage. It’s important for players to be role models for young people, and Ronaldo is setting a great example by admitting that he wasn’t fouled. This is just one of the many reasons why Ronaldo is one of the most respected athletes in the world,” another wrote.
