Arsene Wenger backs Arsenal to win EPL title this season

Arsene Wenger backs Arsenal

Arsene Wenger, a former Arsenal manager, believes his former team has a chance to win the Premier League title this season.

Mikel Arteta’s team leads the table after six rounds of play, having won five of their first six games.

They can go into the September international break in first place if they beat Brentford in Sunday’s midday kick-off at the Gtech Community Stadium.

During his 22-year tenure in north London, Wenger guided the Gunners to three league titles, including the club’s last in 2003/04 when they went 38 games without losing. After leaving north London in 2018, Wenger accepted a position as FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development.

The Frenchman hardly ever speaks about his former team, but when he did so in his capacity as a pundit, he expressed his excitement over Arsenal’s aspirations to compete for major awards and return to the Champions League.

“I would say they are moving in the right direction. I honestly think there is no weak position in the team…they are young, promising players and they have bought well this year,” Wenger said.

“There is no completely dominating team this season and Arsenal has a chance with the potential that is there. We used to be in the top four and why not again? You cannot even rule out the fact that they can fight for the title and hopefully they can do it.”

Since Wenger’s departure, Arsenal has not challenged for the Premier League title and has not finished in the top four since 2016.
