Tobiloba Amusan, a sprint hurdler, and Raymond Ekevwo, a sprinter, have arrived in Nigeria for the 2022 Nigeria Athletics Championships, which will take place between June 24 and 26.
The duo arrived aboard Qatar Airways and Royal Air Maroc respectively on Sunday.
Amusan improved her African 100m hurdles record (12.42) by 0.02 to 12.41 on her way to winning the event at the Diamond League competition in Paris, France on Saturday.
The 25-year-old will attempt to defend her Nigerian 100m hurdles championship and earn a ticket to both the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the World Athletics Championships in Oregon by winning the race.
Amusan will also try to beat Angela Atede’s Nigeria Championships record of 12.63 seconds, which she established in Lagos in 1997.
Ekevwo finished second in the Meeting De Madrid 2022, a World Athletics Continental silver tour event, with a time of 10.11 seconds in the 100m.
After debuting in Doha, Qatar in 2019, the 23-year-old will be looking for his first national 100m gold and a return trip to the World Athletics Championships.
He’ll also be eager to get his first taste of the Commonwealth Games.
