After testing positive for Covid-19 at England’s pre-Euro 2022 camp at St George’s Park, Alex Greenwood has returned home.
The Manchester City defender will be closely monitored in the hope of returning to camp as soon as possible.
The Lionesses’ provisional squad of 28 players is currently training at St George’s Park in preparation for the upcoming home European Championships, which begin on July 6 at Old Trafford.
Greenwood is expected to play a key role for England at the Euros this summer, following an impressive season with Manchester City in which she established herself as a regular starter for the Lionesses under Sarina Wiegman.
Last season, the defender started all 22 of her team’s WSL games, and her efforts earned her a nomination for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award and a second place finish in the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year vote.
On Thursday, June 16, England will play Belgium in the first of three pre-tournament friendlies at Molineux.
On the 24th of June, Wiegman’s former team, reigning European champions the Netherlands, will pay a visit, before the Lionesses’ final friendly against Switzerland on the 30th of June in Zurich.
Wiegman is also away from camp at the moment due to a close family bereavement. The England coach is set to return to St George’s Park next week, when the Lionesses’ Euros squad will be whittled down to just 23 players.
