AFCON 2023 qualifiers: Nigeria now second in Group A as Guinea Bissau leads

Nigeria has dropped to second place in the Group A of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.

Guinea Bissau are now top of the group as a result of their 1-0 victory over Sao Tome & Principe on Wednesday in the Lusophone derby.

The game, which originally should have been played in Sao Tome, was however played in Guinea Bissau.

Sao Tome ceded home advantage to Bissau because their own stadium has been deemed unfit for use in international competition by CAF.

The win takes Guinea Bissau to up to 10 points from five games with a one-point lead over Nigeria.

Guinea Bissau will qualify for the tournament if Sierra Leone fail to beat the Super Eagles in the other group game on Sunday.
