AFCON 2023: Date for European clubs to release Super Eagles player revealed
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, and European clubs has reached an agreement to officially release Nigerian players for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations by January 1, 2024.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to open camp in Abu Dhabi on the same day for the competition.
Head coach, Jose Peseiro has already submitted a 40-man provisional list to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The list is expected to be pruned down to 27 latest January 3, 2024.
Euro clubs have often been reluctant to release players in good time for the AFCON because it is often played in the middle of their leagues.
Interestingly, the Eagles will participate in a three-nation tournament in Abu Dhabi as part of their preparation for the AFCON.
Burkinaso Faso and Democratic Republic of Congo are the teams that will take part in the tourney.
Nigeria will open thostilities at the AFCON 2023 finals against Equatorial Guinea on January 14.
