2023 WWC: England’s Lauren James sent off against Super Falcons

England’s Lauren James was sent off agains the Super Falcons minutes before going into extra time of their 2023 Women’s World Cup Round of 16 clash.
The Lionesses have been under immense pressure from a dominant Nigerian side, who have made Sarina Wiegman’s squad look second best in the last 16 clash.
And following a frustrating game, in which England has had few real chances, striker James was given a yellow card for stamping on Michelle Alozie.
Then, in fresh heartbreak for fans, the 21-year-old’s card was upgraded to a red, leaving England with just 10 women with just a handful of minutes to go before full-time.
And with the scores still level at 0-0, it appears as though England will now go into extra time with a player down – and penalties looming.
Scores of England fans were up early this morning to watch today’s drama, as they transformed pubs and viewing areas into a sea of red and white.
