When the Super Eagles face the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Abuja on Thursday (today), they will be looking to end a five-match winless streak.

The three-time African champions haven’t won since a 2-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau’s Wild Dogs in their final group game at AFCON 2021.

The Super Eagles have lost three and drawn two of their last five matches since then.

Jose Peseiro, the team’s newly appointed head coach, has a full complement of all the invited players at his disposal and is confident of getting the team off to a perfect start in the qualifiers.

Peseiro, who has lost his first two games as coach, is desperate to prove he is the right man for the job.

Only a win in this highly anticipated match will endear the Portuguese to the Super Eagles’ fans.

The Leone Stars held the Super Eagles to a 4-4 draw the last time the two sides met in November 2020.
