Sitting-Governor of Ogin State, Dapo Abiodun, reacts to the visit of the activist of Sunday Adeyemo, a.ka. Sunday Igboho to the state.
Abiodun, in brief, this Saturday, where he revealed that his government would not condone any form of insecurity to lives and properties in the state.
The report has it that there have been killings and kidnapping in the Yewa axis of Ogun state, which the Fulani herdsmen were faulted.
Traditional rulers in the state had called on the state government to intervene and come to the aid as the Fulani-herdsmen and some members of the Nigerian soldiers who escorts them are alleging killing them in scores while they graze unrestrained on their farms.
Sunday, Igboho, on account of the failing security situation in the state, visited the affected Ogun state communities.
His visit was welcomed with open hands by traditional rulers of the state who welcomed him, though the state government frowned at his visit to the state.
Community members alleged that they’d lost count of the numbers of people killed by the Fulani-herdsmen who also destroyed their farms.
While Sunday was in the Oja-Oda area of Ogun state, Fulani’s settlement and a cattle market were both set ablaze by unknown thugs, who, according to report, use the opportunity of the situation to attack the Sarkin Fulani and his subjects.
Gov. Abiodun, while reacting to the event, said he had released security chiefs and personnel who have been charged with the responsibility of managing the security situation of the area.
The governor further hints that the step is to curb any re-occurring Fulani-herders crisis clashes in the Yewa axis of the state.
Dapo recounts;
“We have deployed a joint security task force to Imeko, Aiyetoro, Ipokia and other border communities along the Nigeria/Benin Republic Border, to forestall a repeat of the recent, fatal farmer-herder clashes in the Yewa axis.
“This decision follows a briefing by security chiefs who have now been charged to put the situation under control and return normalcy to the areas.
“As we will not tolerate anything that threatens the security of lives and property, the Ogun State Government will give security agencies the needed support to deal with the situation and bring the full weight of the law on anyone who chooses to foment trouble in the area and indeed Ogun State,” the governor said in a statement”.
