Lagos APC Primaries: Live updates and result as Ambode battles Sanwo-Olu

The primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is presently holding in Lagos state. The party is set to pick their governorship candidate for next year’s Lagos state gubernatorial elections with incumbent Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and governorship aspirant, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the race.

Ambode is fighting a tough battle to remain in office for another four years, as Sanwo-Olu has the backing of Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the National Chairman of the party.

Tinubu and other APC leaders in the state have endorsed Sanwo-Olu for the party’s governorship ticket.

Meanwhile, there was reportedly a massive reception for Sanwo-Olu as he turned up at his ward, ward E3 Lagos Island to caste his vote in the Lagos APC Primaries.

In a video shared online showing Sanwo-Olu being received in his ward, someone reacted saying…

“I don’t think Ambode stands any chance against this man. What I saw in the video I just watched shows that Ambode stands no chance at all. Two banners clearly displaying Ambode and Sanwo-Olu’s pictures were hung and I couldn’t see anyone on the queue ready to vote Ambode. They were all rushing Sanwo-Olu’s banner”.

The Jide-Sanwo-Olu support group had earlier accused APC’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomole, the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo of moving to manipulate primaries in favour of Ambode at the last minutes.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Ambode had just just 4 votes out of over 960 in Tinubu’s ward read here. Sanwo-Olu is no doubt the the anointed of Tinubu, the National Leader of the party, so it’s not surprising that he got that stupendous number of votes in the ward as opposed to Ambode’s number of votes.

It has also been reported that the voting process of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary was disrupted for a while at Ward G North, Abesan, in Alimosho Local Government Area as thugs chased away members of the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the thugs numbering about 15 invaded the Abesan High School, venue of the exercise at 9.45am on Monday, flogging members, preventing them from getting accredited. Some policemen at the venue later responded to the situation by arresting some of the hoodlums and restoring normalcy.

NAN, however, observed that there was a large turnout of party members waiting to cast their votes for either Governor Akinwunmi Ambode or Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Jide Sanwo-Olu has now disowned the Jide-Sanwo-Olu support group via his Twitter handle after they claimed that APC’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomole, the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo moved to manipulate primaries in favour of Ambode at the last minutes.
