Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has urged the Buhari-led administration to create job opportunities for Nigerian youths before banning cryptocurrency transactions in the country.
In a statement released on Saturday, the People Democratic Party’s 2019 presidential candidate encourages the Federal Government to revert his decisions on banning cryptocurrency.
Kemi Filani had earlier reported that the Central Bank of Nigeria had sent a directive to all financial and non-financial-institution ordering them to stop all cryptocurrencies transactions and close all crypto account in the country.
In its directives to the regulated bodies, the Apex bank that transacting in cryptocurrency was illegal in the country.
In reactions to the development, Atiku condemns the FG’s move, stating that the youths are already suffering from financial incapacitation due to joblessness.
Atiku further warns that any policy that abhors the inflow of capital into the country would also reprimand the economy, hence asking the FG to rethink its decision on the ban on cryptocurrency transactions in the country.
A business expert also reacting to the ban on cryptocurrency warns that the country is already suffering from an economic crisis following the down surge of the foreign capital inflow the country had experienced since 2018
He further explains that the country had already suffered from the economic down tour from the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and the border-closure hence the need to forfeit the ban on cryptocurrency.
