Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has reacted to claims made by ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) that he is not a Nigerian and therefore, not qualified to contest in the election.
Reacting through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku describes the APC’s claims as ridiculous and an insult to Nigerians considering he held the position of Vice President of Nigeria for eight years.
Atiku said, “That is idiotic. It is idiotic. And it is ridiculous. Atiku Abubakar is a former vice president of Nigeria. Are they telling us that a former vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not a Nigerian? That is disrespectful to Nigerians and for the office he has held, which other people will hold and will continue to hold. Everything must not be on the alter of politics”
The APC had on Friday filed a motion at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja that the candidate of PDP in the February 23 Presidential Election, Atiku Abubakar, is not a Nigerian and therefore not qualified to have stood for the election.
