Why governors can’t escape EFCC’s probe – Nuhu Ribadu tells governors-elect

Nuhu Ribadu

Former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman, Nuhu Ribadu has given reasons why governors can’t escape probes during or after their tenure.

“You are in charge of our government. You control our resources, including that of the local governments,” Ribadu said on Tuesday, April 30, at a retreat for newly elected governors organised by the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) in Abuja.

Ribadu said the above words which meant that state governors are often subject of corruption probes why? because they are in charge of governance and control a large chunk of resources in their states.

Ribadu however advised the soon to be inaugrated state governors to embark on self-preservation on how to leave their office with their integrity intact, noting that is the only thing that can save them.

He also advised the governors to adhere strictly to their oath of office and govern with fairness and justice.

“The day you leave, there will be checks. The person you install may be the one to come and check you. You should know that,” he said.

Ribadu pointed to the governors to avoid cash transaction which includes security votes, saying public funds should not be spent recklessly.

He urged them to emulate President Muhammadu Buhari in separating governance from personal interests.

“You are lucky you have someone to learn from, please emulate President Muhammadu Buhari. He has no business partner, nobody sits with him to make deals. We don’t have overnight billionaires again. He is a good leader to emulate,” he said.
