Ex-Manchester United star, Wayne Rooney arrested in Washington

Ex-Manchester United star, Wayne Rooney was reportedly arrested in Washington last month for public intoxication and swearing.

The England football legend who now plays for DC United, was said to have committed the offence on December 16 last year.

He was arrested by the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority for a class four misdemeanour before being released without bail.

A hearing was due to take place on January 24, but this has been waived after he paid a €25 fine with €91 costs earlier this month.

A spokesman for Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said:

“He was booked into the Loudoun County Adult Detention Centre on December 16, 2018, on a charge of public intoxication stemming from an arrest by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police (MWAA).

Rooney is currently 13 months into a drink-driving ban and has completed 100 hours of community service which was part of his punishment.

Rooney posted a photo of himself at an event in Saudi Arabia in the days prior to the arrest.
