The Supreme Court on Thursday, dismissed an appeal filed by a former Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, which sought to disqualify Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidates in the just-concluded presidential elections.
The apex court panel led by Inyang Okoro threw out the suit for being statute-barred.
However, before the suit was dismissed, the appellant opted to withdraw the case.
Nwajiuba had prayed an Abuja High Court to void the processes that produced Tinubu and Abubakar as candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) respectively.
He alleged that both men bought delegates’ votes to emerge flag bearers of their parties.
The federal high court judge, Inyang Ekwo, dismissed the suit, saying the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the suit on the grounds that the plaintiffs do not have the locus standi to file the suit.
