The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has said the fire incident in the Maryland area of the state, as seen in a viral video, occurred on Tuesday.
In a statement issued, LASEMA said the fire incident occurred while emergency responders were carrying out recovery of a truck conveying 45 tonnes of wheat flour at the Independence Tunnel with the aid of the Agency’s Heavy-duty equipment, SuperMetro.
The agency said while the recovery was ongoing, a live IKEDC electricity cable snapped during the heavy rain thereby resulting in a loud explosion and a big fire.
“LASEMA Responders on ground promptly reached out to IKEDC Ikeja for quick intervention. The feeders supplying the area was immediately disconnected, electricity supply isolated and the fallen cables were evacuated by IKEDC.
“It has been realiably gathered today Wednesday 13th April, 2022 that the circulated/viral video occurred yesterday.
Emergency responders at the incident scene were LASEMA, LASTMA and the NPF.
“However, the Agency Responders have re-visited Transmission Company of Nigeria and IKEDC Office both at Maryland, and have been assured that the electricity lines along the area remain isolated till adequate repairs are done.
“So Lagosians are advised to go about their normal businesses with all vigour and sense of safety for the safety of lives and properties of Lagosians are assured in the administration of Mr. Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu,” the agency said.
