Theresa May today shed tears as she announced that she will be stepping down as Prime Minister and Conservative leader on June 7.
A new leader will be put in place to replace the Prime Minister who was put under pressure by MPs over her Brexit plan. Her withdrawal agreement was rejected three times by parliament before now.
Theresa May made the announcement at a media conference outside 10 Downing Street in confirmation of mounting speculation that she was to resign throughout the week.
“I’m proud of the progress we have made over the past three years,” she said.
“I will shortly leave the job that it has been the honour of my life to hold. The second female prime minister but certainly not the last.”
Theresa May will still be the Prime Minister to welcome US President Donald Trump when he visits the UK on June 3.
