The N-Power Verification Centre in Makurdi, the Benue State Capital, was filled to the gate on Friday due to the sheer volume of applicants that stormed the premises.
A visit to the centre by our correspondent showed that the applicants who qued up to the gate were too many for the very few N-Power officials at the centre to attend to.
Some of the applicants who spoke to our correspondent on anonymous conditions expressed dissatisfaction with the process.
One of the applicants said she has been in the queue since 7 am.
“I came here before 7 am, I was among the first persons to join the line but it 11 am already and the queue has not gotten to me,” she told KemiFilaniNews correspondent.
Another applicant said he blamed the N-Power officials for the delay stressing that they are taking more than the necessary time in attending to applicants.
“The queue is not moving because the N-Power officials are wasting time. They will be attending to only one person for more than 30 minutes,” he lamented.
He frowned at the act of those who are already working but still applied for the N-Power scheme which he claimed was the reason for the very long queue.
“The queue is very long because some people are already working but still applied to collect government money. That is not good because it will deprive those who really need it of the opportunity. Even some politicians applied for the scheme,” he said.
One of the N-Power officials at the centre who didn’t give her name because she was not authorized to speak on the matter, said the delay in the verification process was due to some technical issues.
“We are trying our best. The delay we are experiencing is due to technical issues. Also, the applicants are too many for us to attend to all of them at once,” she said.
N-Power is a scheme set up by President Muhammadu Buhari administration to address the issues of youth unemployment and help increase social development.
