An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Thursday, sentenced a 29-year old student, Okafor Peter to three months imprisonment for stealing cell phone and N117,000 cash.
Peter who resides in Gwagwalada, FCT is charged with housebreaking and theft.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency.
The Judge, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkarim, gave the convict an option of fine of N20,000.
Abdulkarim ordered Peter to pay compensation of N117,000 to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the matter was reported at the Gwagwalada Police Station on March 26 by Chukwudi Gift, the complainant.
Tanko said that Peter went to the complainant’s house at 39 Toieb Street, Mega Screen, Gwagwalada on March 23 to pay her the N4,000 he borrowed from her.
”The complainant ran out of the room and locked Peter inside, on her return she discovered that he has broken the celling.
”In the process, he stole the complainant’s cellular phone and withdrew N117,000 from her Guaranty Trust Bank and Palmpay accounts,” he said.
The police said that the complainant’s phone was recovered from the convict during police investigation.
Tanko said the offence contravened the Sprovisions of sctions 246 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
