The 17-year-old schoolgirl identified as Promise Idorenyin, has said that the gun found on her was given to her by her 38-year-old boyfriend, Okon Effiom Eden.
The Police Commissioner in a statement revealed that the female suspect did not target her teacher as initially reported since the double-barrel pistol found in her bag had no ammunition. He said: “The 17-year-old girl, an SS 2 student of Community Secondary School, Ikot Ewa, Akpabuyo, had in her school bag a locally made double-barrel pistol, which was discovered by the principal of the school.
“The suspect admitted that the said firearm was given to her by her boyfriend, Okon Effiom of Abasi Effiom village in Akpabuyo LGA. Discreet investigation is on-going; the suspects will soon be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution”.
Talking to the press, the 17-year-old girl stated that the gun belonged to her boyfriend and that her parents were aware of her relationship with the man and had given their support, but denied planning to shoot her teacher.
“My parents are aware of my relationship. At times, he sleeps in our house. He helps me in my school matters. He told me to take the gun to the blacksmith to fix it”, Idorenyin said.
She said further that she belonged to a female cult group called “Sky Queens Confraternity”, but was not given any position of responsibility.
