Oyerinde was whisked on Wednesday by officers who drafted patrol vehicles and anti-riot policemen to to prevent outbreak of chaos as youth protested the installation of a new monarch in their town.
Report say Oyerinde allegedly defied an ongoing litigation over the kingship tussle for the seat of Aresa Adu of Iresa Adu, by paradeing himself as the new traditional ruler of the town.
The Aresa Adu stool whuch is in contention was last occupied by Oba Jimoh Oloyede for 19 years, who also battled the litigation instituted by the same Oyerinde until his death in December 2018.
Wuth an appeal court ruling in his favour, Oyerinde stormed the town on Wednesday with families and well-wishers amidst pomp and pageantry, to take over the stool. This is despite a Supreme Court suit filed by the late monarch.
Oyerinde arrived the town with a carnival-like procession, but an eye-witness said “angry youths descended on them and vandalized two vehicles before the entourage fled in different direction.”
This led to a protest with youths barricading major roads leading to the town and burnt disused tyres and chanted war songs against Oyerinde whom they described as an usurper.
