On Tuesday, a Karu Upper Area Court in Abuja remanded Mujahid Bala, a 22-year-old POS attendant, in prison for allegedly denying receiving a credit alert from a customer.
Ishaq Hassan, the Judge, ordered the defendant’s remand until March 2 to determine his sentence.
Bala, who lives in Nyanya Pantaker, Abuja, pleaded guilty to criminal breach of trust and cheating but requested mercy.
Olarewaju Osho, the prosecution’s counsel, told the court that Babagida Sale and Abdulrahman Sani, both of Nyanya Pantaker, Abuja, reported the matter to the Nyanya Police Station on February 8.
“The complainants had alleged that on Jan. 16, their customer transferred the sum of N143, 000 to the defendant.
“When the complainants approached the defendant for withdrawal, he denied receiving credit alert.
“However, during police investigation, the defendant confessed to the act but could not give satisfactory account of the said money,” Osho told the court.
The offence, he said contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
