Motorists on the Long Bridge along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have cried for help over the recurrent attacks from armed robbers.
Kemi Filani gathered that a robbery incident occurred early Wednesday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, forcing motorists to abandon their vehicles and take cover for safety after a series of sporadic shootings by the armed robbers.
The robbery occurred between 5am and 6:15am on the Long Bridge, near Warewa bus stop.
In viral social media videos, the voices of victims indicated that they encountered the same on Tuesday.
In one of the videos, the narrator was heard saying: “This is the same thing that happened yesterday.
“You can see now that all of us are on standstill now.
“There is a robbery going on in the front.
“Can you hear gunshots now and there is no police presence?”
“Please we need help.”
Also, an eyewitness simply named Abayomi told PUNCH, “There was a robbery and because of the robbery, people out of fear began to run. Some people hit the cars of others.”
Abayomi, who was a bus passenger at the time of the robbery on Long Bridge, added that he learned someone died in the incident.
Abayomi said the police did not respond to distress calls quickly.
The divisional police officer at the Warewa Police Station, Abdulfathai Ogunsanya told the newspaper that nobody was killed in the incident.
“A vehicle was shattered and the person involved is in the hospital receiving treatment as we speak,” he said.
