Reno Omokri has reacted to how some social media users tried to justify the way Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege went on his knees to greet President Buhari.
The gesture which was done yesterday was condemned by Reno Omokri who saw it as a clear indication that the newly inaugurated 9th senate won’t stand up to the president.
He wrote:
“When we have a Deputy Senate President KNEELING DOWN to greet General Muhammadu Buhari, how can we expect the 9th Senate of the National Assembly to STAND UP to him? The Legislature was created to CHECK the Executive, not to BOW to them. I served under President Goodluck Jonathan. I was Uber loyal to him. I am still ultra loyal to him. But I never knelt down to him. I kneel down to my God. I respect my boss. I won’t kneel down to a President. Sad! Very sad!”
Some social media users however kicked back at him by likening the gesture to how US President Donald Trump greeted the Queen of England. In response, he wrote:
“There are some people trying to justify the slavish behaviour of Senator Omo-Agege kneeling to greet General Muhammadu Buhari by comparing it with Theresa May curtseying to Prince Williams. They are are desperately trying to compare apples to oranges. Mrs. May bowed to Prince William because he represented the Queen at an event. Buhari is not our Monarch. Buhari is our EMPLOYEE. The Queen of England is the Head of the Church of England and the Defender of the Faith. That is her official title. If Princes Charles or William, or any other members of the Royal Family represents her, you bow to them as of you are bowing to Her Majesty. Donald Trump and Barrack Obama both bowed to the Queen. Even Generals Gowon and Babangida did the same when they paid state visits to England. However, ONLY WOMEN kneel or courtesy to the Queen or her representatives. My question is this, is Omo-Agege a WOMAN? Nigeria is not some Game of Thrones fantasy environment where the leader of a CO-EQUAL arm of government bends the knee to another, especially one who rigged himself back to power!”.
