Okada riders cause BRT collision in Lagos

Commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders have been blamed for the accident involving two BRT in Lagos on Monday.

This is according to Primero Transport Services Ltd, the operators of Bus Rapid Transit, via its Managing Director, Mr Fola Tinubu.

The collision of both buses occurred at Asolo area of Ikorodu, leaving some persons injured and also resulting in a build up of traffic in the area.

Speaking on the incident, Mr Tinubu stated that the menace of commercial motorcyclists need to be curtailed.

“We need to do something about this Okada menace because if we don’t do something about it, this kind of thing will still happen again.

“The buses (were) trying to evade an Okada and that was when they collided with each other.”

Expressing gratitude that no life was lost, he added: “There were some minor injuries and all the affected have been released from the hospital. We thank God for that.

“However, my big concern is this Okada menace. The way they ride is as if they have more than one life. Their riding between buses needs to be addressed.

“The government just has to do something urgently about Okada on BRT lanes,” he stressed.

This is coming days after a Dangote truck loaded with cements veered off its lane and collided with a BRT in Lagos.
