NCDC shut health facility issuing fake COVID-19 results in Abuja

Adeniyi OpeyemiBy Adeniyi OpeyemiFebruary 9, 2021

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has shut down a health center in Abuja for allegedly receiving a bribe to issue fake coronavirus test results to people.

The Director-General of NCDC, Dr. Chike Ihekweazu, disclosed this during a national Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 held in Abuja on Monday.

Ihekweazu explained further that the center would collect samples for testing people, but they didn’t have evidence that any test was carried out.

“This particular event has been an issue and a big challenge for us at NCDC and the PTF as well.

“Last week, the FCT Administration supported us by sealing off an illegal testing center.

“This center had been collecting funds for conducting the coronavirus tests from citizens and issuing fake results to them.

“In these fake laboratories, samples are collected, but there is no single evidence that they are being tested.

“This is not only a fraudulent act but has caused huge damage by increasing the spread of the virus and loss of lives,” he said.

The Director-General of NCDC urged Nigerians to quit visiting that center, stating that it’s not an NCDC accredited center.

In the other news, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has banned 100 Nigerians from international travel and says they are flawed of COVID-19 guidelines.
