Director general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Adeyeye has disclosed that the agency is now in works with herbalists to start manufacturing herbal medicines.
According to her, the agency, under her administration will promote development of herbal medicine.
Speaking during the SUNRISE Daily program on Channels TV moments ago, Professor Adeyeye said:
“Our low hanging fruit is our herbal medicine, we have fantastic researchers in Nigeria that have done a lot of work on herbal medicine but we have lost millions of Naira because we don’t protect what we discover in herbal medicines and we don’t put a lot of money to translate it.
So that is why, NAFDAC has now established a herbal medicine product committee, a national team of herbalists and researchers to grow our herbal medicines….my goal is to bring herbalists and researchers together to build a solid trust…..whatever the herbalists find, the researchers will interpret and improve on the natural herbs and plants products….”
