Doreetha Daniels, a Los Angeles County resident, has earned her associate of arts degree at the age of 99 at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita after 6 years and countless hours of hard work.
Her journey has been wrought with personal difficulties, from multiple strokes to sight and hearing issues to the revocation of her driver’s license.
She also battled to keep up in intensive subjects, such as college-level math and statistics, becoming a regular at the Tutoring & Learning Center.
In a statement, Daniels advised prospective students: “I did it. I did it. Don’t give up. Do it. Don’t let anybody discourage you. Say that, ‘I’m going to do it,’ and do it for yourself.”….. she added that she had no time for any romantic relationship all through her studies.
While we find this really inspiring, some peeps think it is a waste of time.
Someone said “This
is what I call selfishness…she could have used the money to support a
younger one who has no money to fund his/her educational dreams. she
will soon die and the degree will just go to the grave with her.”
Now, what do you think kfbers?
