Mixed reactions as Diezani Alison-Madueke laments about ‘Yahoo’ boys becoming role models (video)

There have been mixed reactions after former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, maintained societal values have crumpled to the extent that online fraudsters popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys’ have become role models in Nigeria.

In the viral video; Diezani hinted while speaking at the event organised by the Ijaw National Development Group on Friday, which was also attended by her former boss, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Diezani stressed the need for mentorship of Ijaw youths. The videos were posted on Twitter by blogger, Jackson Ude, who is also the publisher of Point Blank News. Watch video below;

In her words, ‘The ones that have swag, the yahoo boys like my son would say. These are the role models they are looking at. These are the ones who reinforce negative societal behaviour and values. This is a travesty of an unfolding tragedy.’

However, this statement did not sit well with some Nigerians who took to social media platforms to vent their displeasure about the minister not setting down the right values herself.
