A reply from Lyon player, Memphis Depay, concerning what Wayne Rooney said about him while they were both at Manchester United, has left fans amazed.
Speaking to the press recently, Wayne Rooney narrated a story about Depay which helps to explain why he failed to perform to the best of his ability at United.
“Memphis? He came on at Stoke away and messed up for their goal so Louis van Gaal made him play for the reserves the next day,” Rooney told The Times, per Manchester Evening News.
“I said, ‘Look, it’s a bit difficult [for you]. Just don’t come in with all your fancy stuff.’
“And he turned up for the reserve game in his Rolls-Royce, wearing a leather jacket and a cowboy hat. And I just thought, ‘What’s the point?’
“But Memphis is a lovely lad and it’s good to see things going well for him now.”
After the interview Rooney granted, fans were highly expectant of how Depay would react. However, the player who made a move from United to Lyon after failing to impress, wasn’t angered by the comment.
Responding via Twitter, Memphis Depay posted a picture of him and Rooney on the substitutes bench for Manchester United, with the caption:
“@waynerooney: Mem… can I borrow your red leather jacket for tonight please? 👹 #ithoughtwewerepastthat”
