Masked thugs invade polling units in Lagos, chase away voters

On Saturday, masked thugs broke into a few polling places in Ward D, Igando/Ikotun, Lagos State, and drove away voters who were waiting in line.

At the polling places at Ijegun Community School, the thugs used sticks and knives to chase the voters away.

There are six voting precincts: 096, 116, 281, 094, and 084.

The thugs reportedly arrived at the polling places on motorcycles, according to a News Agency of Nigeria correspondent who covered the elections in the area.

They chased them away as they moved from one voting location to another.

Some voters had to jump the school fence to get away from the attack.

The thugs also assaulted a woman who attempted to take their photo at Polling Unit 227, which is situated at Awonisi Gate on Ijegamo Road.

They allegedly took her phones and her automated teller machine cards.

They also beat up and wounded a man who attempted to challenge them.

The voters, including accredited ones, did not return to the polling units as at press time even after the thugs left. (NAN)
