Argentine football legend, Diego Maradona has issued a note of warning to Argentina’s coach, Jorge Sampaoli, ahead of his team’s game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Russia 2018 world cup.
The Albeceleste got a rude shocker when they drew 1-1 against little known Iceland who are first timers at the world cup. Lionel Messi had the chance to put his team in front from the penalty spot but had his shot stopped by the Iceland goalkeeper.
While speaking to a Venezuelan television, a 1986 World Cup winner, Diego Maradona, warned Jorge Sampaoli not to return home if he carries on with his kind of performance.
“If he carries on like this, Sampaoli can’t come back to Argentina,”
“It’s a disgrace. Not having prepared for the match knowing that Iceland are all 1.90m tall. I get the feeling there’s a general anger at the heart of the team,” Maradona said.
He added that the road to qualification is difficult as he pointed out Nigeria to be a stubborn opponent that may stop them in their last qualification match.
‘’The Nigerians are young and very fast. Their counter-attacks and pace are a beauty to behold. I wonder how Sampaoli will do it. All I know is that he would not be welcomed back to Argentina if he does not guide Argentina to beat Croatia and Nigeria to qualify.”
