Lobi Stars coach Solomon Ogbeide has stated that Lobi Stars are worthy winners of the Nigeria Professional Football League despite being pronounced Champions with 14 matches to go.
The League Management Company pronounced the Makurdi based club as the Champions following the Crisis that engulfed Nigeria football before the World Cup.
The LMC needed to send the list of Nigeria representative in the CAF Champions League on October 14, but the league cannot be concluded before that date, hence the decision to end the league and announce Lobi Stars as winners.
Ogbeide said his club did not lobby and they deserved to be crowned champions
“We would have loved to play till the very end if it not for the exigency of time and logistics which accounted for the call to end the league,” said a chat with Footballlive
“That doesn’t take away the fact that we deserve to be crowned champions. I have read many insinuations from people that we aren’t worthy of the honour.”
“The accusations that we lobbied for the trophy doesn’t look fair on us. We clearly worked for the title and got what we deserved,” he added.
Lobi Stars will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League.
