LASTMA to probe extortion of motorist in Agege by its officers

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) General Manager, Mr. Olajide Oduyoye, says the agency will begin probing Lagos motorist’s extortion agitation.

In a viral video, a motorist had accused some LASTMA officials of unlawfully collecting money from him, amounting to N11,300 at the zonal commands in Agege.

Oduyoye said the complainant’s evidence would be scrutinized, and any officer found responsible as claimed would face the consequences under the State Civil Service rule as specified.

While encouraging the public to speak up against any corrupt officials, the general manager further states that there are many LASTMA officials who are dedicated, conscientious, and professional in carrying out their official functions.

He also encouraged all road users in Lagos to adhere to traffic rules and regulations so as not to run foul of the Law, whereby facing the wrath of the Law.

Oduyoye further explains that some violaters offer LASTMA officials bribes when they have offended traffic rules, not knowing that the Law frowns on both the giver and taker.
