A landlord and the head of Okponta quarters in Ibusa town,
Oshimili-North area of Delta State, Mr. Sunday ‘Allah-day’ Okocha, has
allegedly beaten a woman, Mrs. Chioma Joshua, into a coma.Mrs. Joshua was reportedly on her way back from a visit to a friend
(Mama Sam) when she was allegedly attacked by Mr. Okocha, her former
landlord.
An eyewitness, who gave her name as Victoria, said:
knew it, the young lady was on the floor bleeding profusely and
unconscious.
“We took the victim to the roadside where she was revived and thereafter
she was rushed to a hospital where the doctor demanded for a police
permit before she would be attended to.”
The victim, who narrated her ordeal after being resuscitated, said, “On
that fateful day, Mama Sam visited me at my apartment with her two
children to stay with me while she went to the market.
“On her return at about 4.30pm, the children were asleep and she asked
me to escort her with one of the children to their house, which I
obliged. At her compound, nothing happened. But on my way home, I heard
someone calling on me. When I turned around, I saw Sunday Okocha, my
former landlord and he attacked me without saying any word. He just
started beating and kicking me. That is all I can remember.”
Speaking to Southern City News, Joshua Isong, the husband of the victim,
said he received a call and had to rush down to the hospital where he
was told that he needed to present a police report before his wife would
be treated.
It was gathered that Isong had to rush to Ibusa Police Station where he
obtained a police report for medical treatment, which was signed by the
Investigating Police Officer, Inspector Francis, and addressed to the
Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.
The medical report, signed by Dr. Elipeni Harrison on 05/01/2017, read
in part, “Observation and treatment report that the victim sustained
bruises in the face and both arms.”
The medical report also analyzed that there was a case of incomplete
abortion with minimal retained products, even as the husband of the
victim alleged that the abortion was caused by the beating.
Isong appealed to the state government, human rights activists and
well-meaning Nigerians to help him as he was finding it difficult to pay
the hospital bill.
Explaining that the only support he had received was from a neighbour,
Isong further alleged that the community head was after his life.
While responding to a question on what could have led to the beating of
his wife by the community head, Isong alleged that it might not be
unconnected with the fact that their former landlord might not have been
happy with the way they packed out of his house as tenants.
When contacted on phone, Mr Okocha boasted that, “The issue on the ground has no relationship with the media and you as a reporter should go to hell. In fact, tell Joshua Isong and his wife that I will be waiting for them in court.”
